Help Is On the Way

Subjective:
I heard the Little River Band on the way back from church today. I used to love them. The song was “Hang On! Help is on the Way” –maybe not the title but at least that was the 1st line of the chorus. To be honest, Little River Band was my make-out music. Don’t know why I picked them for that task, but it was. They served their duty. As this is a physical therapy blog, Help is on the way is our topic today.
Objective:
Wellness is the wave of the future in health care. Carson Physical Therapy is already participating. Think about our cars. They are the second biggest purchase most people commonly make. The first being a house. What do we do with our cars? We drive them around, give them baths, feed them gas but we also maintain them. Semi-routinely (whether you realize you do or not) you peek at the tires and see if they look flat, change the oil and filter. We keep them “well”.
The current state of healthcare in our nation –and the world– is not wellness. It’s all after the fact. Again our cars: you don’t change the oil, check the fluids and belts, it’s going to cost a lot more than your standard trip to Faught Tire or Pep Boys.
We go to the doctor when something is wrong. My knee’s been hurting. My fingers ache. It hurts when I look to the left.
Healthcare will change. Wellness and prevention will be a big part of it.
Carson Physical Therapy is working to be ahead of the curve. We already offer massage (It’s not just about pampering yourself!) and exercise training but in the next 2 months we will be starting our Physical Therapy Oriented Gym (PTOG). A gym to keep yourself well, for losing weight, for prepping for surgery (prehab), keep that diabetes in check, and countless other things.
Assessment:
How will our PTOG be different? You go to a fitness center now, there will be some employees there. You might even see a personal trainer helping someone. At the PTOG we will have a physical therapist, physical therapist assistant, or athletic trainer there everyday to help you and guide you through the workout. Yes, the majority of the time your workout will be self directed but the therapist or trainer will be there to advance your program, give you a new challenge, make sure you’re doing something correctly, and answer questions.
Plan:
More information will follow. The goal is an August –if not before– startdate. Remember, help is on the way.
